Photography

I love taking pictures. In the journey of discovery of identifying problems & phenomenons, i like to stop and take a moment to capture stories. I find the perspective that plays with the idea of playing with a ticking bomb called time vividly interesting. As the variables of the world are never static, photographs possess the ability to freeze a moment in time through capturing in light, thus recording it in a visual form. But with the countless amounts of light-capturing techniques that have led up to the modern camera, a dilemma is formed for the answer to that question.

Film photography is my favorite mediums for photography. The amount of shots I take are limited. This is because of the nature of film rolls. Although this at first seems annoying, it allows me to slow down and really savor the moment of capturing moments. It teaches me the value of these moments, really taking time to think rather than mindlessly clicking the shutter button.

I also really like to do concert photography. As an avid live music enjoyer, being able to capture the moments I feel the most alive makes me happy. I can share these precious moments and share them with others. Although because of the limited lighting circumstances and the chaotic nature of concerts, the technicalities for this type of photography is more challenging, but rewarding. I currently have the ability to gain photo passes for concerts through KXSC, USC’s student Radio.

Music Discovery

music

Moving thousands of miles away from my home in Jakarta, Indonesia, to USC, I listen to Indonesian music to transport me back home, to my safe space, creating this otherly world making USC feel somehow homey to me. I grew up learning about the world through music. I learned architecture through French- Canadian folk songs and dove deep into the history of Indonesian colonization through Papuan war anthems. I want to continue doing the same in LA, expanding my worldview. I want to dive deeper by talking to the people behind the art, and democratize that content so that others can also learn about different intricacies that build up the world through art and people.

I love to create playlists on spotify. Discovering different genres across different eras and geographies. I share these discoveries on my radio show every Wednesday at 11AM. I like to curate my set based on the season and mood. I love exploring the instrumentals, samples, and history behind the music I play on my radio show.

I also am apart of the student radio music department. I love chatting about music and sharing opinions with people in the department. Every week, I get assigned a random genre. My task is to discover new music in that specific sub-genre that is released in the past month by someone with less than 100k listeners. This is especially challenging, but I have lots of fun listening to different types of music.
